MUMBAI: Bringing in a wonderful fusion story for her collection, Tanya Sharma offered a unique look at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012.
With the achkan and tuxedo as inspirations, the designer combined them with men's street wear and traditional ethnic garments and created a different look for women's wear.
The result was the unique tuxedo sari, the achkan kaftan created from Indian fabrics like silk ikat, net, georgette and classic men's fabrics all topped with delicate embroidery like chikankari, Kasab and sequin work.
The colours were truly Indian as mustard, regal blue, stunning peach and fluorescents like pink completed the shade card.
Using net as the constant in the garments, Tanya had a black net maxi skirt, which ended with orange and blue broad borders. Beautiful ikat appeared for a scooped hem bolero or a two tone ikat net shrug.
Mixing colours and fabrics liberally, there were tiny black capes over georgette kurtas with embroidery. Lehengas in net had multi coloured panels; while the tuxedo's tails appeared in the front of the garment, with a bright yellow orange trail at the back.
Quite quirky were the black jumpsuit with net insets on legs and the grey coat with a long net hem. Finally, it was the sari with multi fabrics, colours and petal blouse that firmly completed the look, which Tanya wanted to, convey to the applauding audience.
Here was a collection that will create magic at any occasion with its unconventional styling by Tanya Sharma.
