In a press conference held recently in their swanky Mumbai studios, MTV India announced the arrival of their second, ‘stylebaby’, the Lycra MTV Style Awards.
Initiated last year, the show has created a platform for mavericks from the fields of music and fashion to come together to create their own brand of magic on stage. The panel of judges who have selected the nominees this year include Fardeen Khan, Feroze Gujral, Jeetendra, Malini Ramani, Mandira Bedi, Manish Malhotra, Nikhil Chinapa and Sukhbir. The nominees were chosen for being original, dynamic, stylish, innovative and contemporary.
The three categories for the awards are Popular, Technical and Honours. The Popular Awards will recognise the most stylish people in the fields of music, television, films and sports while the Technical Awards will acknowledge people from the fashion industry including models, designers and fashion photographers. The Honours will recognise people in the field of business and politics. The panel of judges has narrowed the search to line up the style icons and now you have the power to select the winners across seven Popular categories. The winners in the Technical and Honours categories will be decided by the panelists.
Speaking on the occasion, Alex Kuruvilla, Managing Director, MTV Networks India, said ,“Last year the first Lycra MTV Style Awards were launched with a big bang and have already set a benchmark for style and fashion in the country. This year we are going all out to further build it into the definitive style platform that it is intended to be... The Most Stylish Show in India!”
Said Gregory Vas Nunes, Vice President, Apparel, Asia Pacific, Invista, “Lycra(r) pioneered the concept of Style Awards in China four years ago. Last year, we brought the same concept to India partnering with MTV. We are committed to redefining style around the world and are delighted to co-host the Lycra(r)MTV Style Awards that will salute individuals and celebrities that epitomize style in India. With the participation of individuals from fields as diverse as fashion, entertainment, sports, politics and music, LYCRA(R) remains as ever committed to making this the most happening fashion and lifestyle event in India”.
The show will be held on October 15 and aired at a later date on MTV.
